Working Principle of PEM electrolytic cell

below drawing reflect its work theory.Firstly put water(please note it should be qualified pure water) into cell.after power on, in anode water will be decomposed to H+ proton and HO- ion,HO- will instantly release a electron to composed to Oxygen.while H+ proton will pass through the ion exchange membrane under the electric force field,to cathod and get a electon here to compose into H2.please note here the ion exchange membrane only allow water and positive ion to pass through.below is the reaction formula.
2H2O -> 4H+ + 4e- +O2
4H+ + 4e- -> 2H2
