Common fuel for flame brazing

The gas used for flame brazing can be oxy-hydrogen,acetylene, propane, petroleum gas, atomized gasoline, gas, etc. Combustion supporting gases are compressed oxygen or compressed air. The flame has a two-layer structure, with the outer light blue coronal flame being an oxide flame. It burns completely, has the highest temperature, is rich in oxygen, and excessive heating can easily oxidize the metal surface of the workpiece; The deep blue core of the inner layer is a reducing flame, with low temperature, oxygen deficiency, and rich in carbon monoxide, which can protect metals from oxidation.
Oxy-hydrogen flame is the most commonly used flame. Oxygen hydrogen flames have the highest temperature in the inner flame area, reaching over 3000 ℃, making them widely used in gas welding. But when brazing, only the base material needs to be heated to a temperature higher than the melting point of the brazing material, so the outer flame of the flame is commonly used for heating, because the temperature of the flame in this area is low and the volume is large, and the heating is relatively uniform. Generally, neutral or carbonized flames are used to prevent oxidation of the base metal and solder.
When the heating temperature is not required to be too high, compressed air can be used instead of pure oxygen. Fuel can be hydrogen,propane, petroleum gas. And atomized gasoline can be used instead of acetylene. These flames have a lower temperature and do not contaminate the brazing flux with acetylene flames. They are suitable for brazing small workpieces and aluminum and aluminum alloys.
